Teen dies after falling 4 storeys in Orchard Central

SINGAPORE - A 17-year-old teen has died after plummeting four storeys off a ledge at Orchard Central on Friday (Feb 24).

"This afternoon, a member of the public vaulted the railing of the level 4 link bridge between Orchard Central and Orchard Gateway onto a ledge and subsequently fell to the atrium. He was rushed to the hospital. We are deeply concerned and are currently assisting the police with their investigations of the incident," Ms Mavis Seow, Chief Operating Officer of the Retail Business Group at Far East Organization said.

Citizen journalism site Stomp reported that the teen was taking photos of his friends when he dropped his phone on the ledge of the linkway bridge connecting Orchard Central and Orchard Gateway.

He then climbed over the railings to retrieve his phone but fell through it as the ledge was unable to support his weight.

The teen landed in front of Kanshoku Ramen Bar, at the mall's atrium.

As he was unconscious, several members of the public attempted to revive him by administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the incident around 4.05pm. The SCDF added that the teen also received CPR from paramedics en route to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

The area on the ground floor where the teen fell, as well as the link bridge on the fourth floor, are now cordoned off.
