Tigerair plane grounded in India after discovery of windshield crack

A Tiger Airways plane was grounded in Tichy, India on Monday after a a windshield crack was discovered by pilots enroute to the south Indian city, reported The Straits Times.

After the plane's safe landing, Tigerair flew a team to Tichy to replace the windshield, delaying the return flight by a day.

It also arranged hotel accommodations for passengers who are not residents of Tichy.

The flight eventually took off from Trichy at 11.30am on Tuesday.

In a statement to AsiaOne, a Tiger Airways spokesperson said: "The return flight for the Trichy-Singapore flight departed today at 11.30 am, Singapore time.

"This was after the cracked windshield was replaced with a new one sent in from Singapore and the sealant had dried.

"Incidentally, the aircraft's windshield, consists of three glass plies, so it did not crack through.

"We will be carrying out engineering investigation to determine the cause of the crack once the cracked windshield arrives in Singapore."
