It was reported last week that the woman charged with murdering her baby son, who was found in the waters off Bedok Jetty last November, would be spending another week undergoing further psychiatric assessment at Changi Women's Prison.

Lim Ann Nee, 44, wore a blank expression as she stood in the dock when her matter was heard January 7.

The police prosecutor told a district court that psychiatrists at the Institute of Mental Health had conducted several tests recently and required her to remain in custody for another week.

Defence counsel Anand Nalachandran then asked why these tests could not have been done earlier as his client had been in custody since Nov 27 last year.

Lim was pulled out of the waters off East Coast Park by the Police Coast Guard at about 6pm on Nov 25. The body of her 17-month-old son, Emilien Lacroix, was found floating about 300m from Bedok Jetty three hours later, after being spotted by a passenger on a passing boat.

About 20 family members and friends were in court. Among them was her husband, Sebastien Lacroix, a Frenchman.

The couple, who live in Singapore, have an older son.

If convicted of murder, Lim, who is unemployed, could be hanged or jailed for life.
