Total Defence celebrates 30 years with video release

SINGAPORE - To commemorate 30 years of Total Defence, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) has released a video clip showing the importance of ordinary Singaporeans.

The two-minute video, entitled Hands, has five mini-stories inspired by real Singaporeans.

It shows the different ways where Singaporeans have played a part in Total Defence.

One of the scenes shows a Singaporean handing out masks during the height of the haze last year.

The clip was directed by award-winning local film-maker Meng Ong.

"I hope that this collection of vignettes will strike a chord with viewers and encourage them to think about how they too, have played, and can continue to play, an integral role in helping to build Singapore," he said at the launch event on Sunday.

The clip will shown on television and in Golden Village cinemas.

It is also available on www.totaldefence.sg and on YouTube.
