Trade talks: Others welcome

Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang said Asia-Pacific countries not taking part in regional trade talks are welcome to seek to join the talks if they are keen.

Mr Lim was replying to Nominated MP Eugene Tan, who had asked if China could be included in the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) talks, and whether the

United States could join in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) process.

The TPP includes the US, but not China; while the RCEP counts China as a member, but not the US.

Mr Lim said the US had not expressed interest in the RCEP, adding that China could contribute to regional economic integration should it decide to join the TPP.
