Traffic police car wrecked in high-speed chase near Geylang Serai

SINGAPORE - The lights were flashing along Geylang Road, but it wasn't the festive lights from the Geylang Serai Hari Raya Bazaar.

Next to a crowded bus stop was a wrecked traffic police patrol vehicle with debris strewn on the roads - the aftermath of a high-speed chase.

Photos sent to citizen journalism website Stomp showed a mangled BMW car rear-ended by the expressway patrol car, with the latter's bonnet heavily damaged and air bags deployed.

The accident is believed to have occurred at 8.50pm on Sunday (June 26) at the junction of Geylang Road and Engku Aman Road.

Footage from Facebook group showed the police car in hot pursuit of a Subaru car before it collided into the BMW vehicle near a crowded bus stop.

The Subaru driver managed to escape. A 28-year-old man was later arrested, the police told the media. He is believed to be the Subaru driver involved in the high-speed chase.

A Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) spokesperson told AsiaOne that they were alerted to the accident at 8.56pm. A Malay male in his 30s was sent to Changi General Hospital after sustaining injuries relating to the accident.

Police told Stomp investigations are ongoing.
