Two men arrested for a series of mobile phone theft

SINGAPORE - Two men were arrested on the suspicion of being involved in a series of mobile phone thefts around Clementi, Jurong, Harbourfront and City Hall.

Police received a report on April 11 that a mobile phone was stolen in a shopping mall at Commonwealth Avenue West around 12pm. Officers from With the aid of CCTV footage, police managed to establish the identity of the two suspects.

It is believed that both had worked together and targeted shops with only one staff, according to a police statement. While one of the suspects would distract the staff, the other would steal the mobile phone belonging to the staff.

The two suspects were subsequently arrested on April 21. They are believed to be responsible for at least eight other cases of mobile phone theft.

They will be charged in court and if guilty, they face a maximum jail term of three years' imprisonment, or fine, or both.
