Two Myanmar women brutally murdered in Malaysia

BUKIT MERTAJAM - Two Myanmar women were brutally murdered beside a railway line in Kampung Setol, Jalan Baru near here.

Htay Htay Than, 21, was found with her throat slit, while the other woman, identified only as Than, 41, had stab wounds on her face and body.

State CID chief Asst Comm Mazlan Kesah said a passer-by found the two women when he went to the scene upon hearing screams at 12.15pm yesterday.

"Both women died on the spot," ACP Mazlan said, adding that robbery had been ruled out as the motive because no valuables were taken.

He said the women, who were former factory workers, had been jobless and were walking when they were attacked.

"Two Myanmar men were arrested at a bus stop near the crime scene within 30 minutes of the incident," he added.

The suspects, in their 30s, were picked up following a description provided by an eye-witness.

"We have taken them to the Central Seberang Prai district police headquarters in Bandar Perda to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said.

ACP Mazlan said police have yet to find the weapons used in the murder, adding that initial investigations revealed both women had been living in the area for two years.

He urged those with information about the murder to contact the nearest police station.
