Two new members for PAP's Tampines GRC team

SINGAPORE - The People's Action Party (PAP) announced on Saturday two new candidates who will join the five-member team to contest for Tampines group representative constituency (GRC) in the coming election.

Mr Desmond Choo and new face Cheng Li Hui will take over from Ms Irene Ng and former minister Mah Bow Tan, reported The Straits Times.

The two candidates will join Education Minister Heng Swee Keat, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Masagos Zulkifli, and MP Baey Yam Keng.

Ms Cheng, 38, is deputy chief executive of engineering firm Hai Leck Holdings, while Mr Choo, 36, is currently the National Trades Union Congress deputy director.

He had lost twice at the polls. In 2011 to the Workers' Party's Mr Yaw Shin Leong and to WP's Mr Png Eng Huat in the 2012 by-election.

Mr Mah and Ms Ng have both announced their retirement from politics early August.

The National Solidarity Party has said it will contest in the GRC again in the coming election but would only unveil their team only after PAP has shown its hand.
