Unmanned firefighting machines tackle fire at Sungei Kadut

SINGAPORE - A factory at Sungei Kadut Street 6, near Kranji, caught fire late Sunday morning.

According to an update on Singapore Civil Defence Force's (SCDF) Facebook page at around 12.50pm, unmanned firefighting machines were deployed and the fire is under control.

"2 male casualties who sustained burn injuries have been conveyed to SGH. Search operations are still ongoing," the SCDF wrote on Facebook.

Citizen journalism site Stomp received photos from contributors, saying that they had seen smoke over the area from their flats around 10.30am.

SCDF was alerted to a case of fire at the above mentioned location at 9.52am. One Unmanned Firefighting Machine, two Fire Engines, four Red Rhinos, five Supporting Vehicles and two ambulances were dispatched, and arrived within 6mins.

Upon SCDF arrival, the fire was raging and burning through the zinc roof of a single storey factory. The zinc roof fully collapsed as a result of the fire. The fire involved wood and metal products and the affected area is approximately 80m by 80m.

At the height of the operation, firefighters encircled the factory with a total of 7 jets, including the Unmanned Firefighting Machine for firefighting and penetration into the risk area. The fire was brought under control within an hour and damping down operations is still in progress. Search operations are still ongoing.
