US man jailed for outrage of modesty at hostels

SINGAPORE - American man Michael Sylvester Williams Jr was sentenced to nine months' jail on Wednesday for taking pictures of two women showering and outraging the modesty of three women in backpackers' hostels.

The 24-year-old, who is here on a social visit pass, used his mobile phone to take the pictures.

On April 26 this year, he pulled down the shorts and panties of a victim at the Pillow Talk hostel on Hamilton Road.

On May 5, he took a picture of a woman showering at a Chinatown hostel and another woman at a hostel in Bendemeer on May 19.

Three weeks later, he stroked the buttocks of a woman sleeping at a Geylang hostel.
