US Republican politician meets PM Lee

SINGAPORE - Senator Bob Corker (Republican-Tennessee), Ranking Member of the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong Wednesday afternoon at the Istana.

During the meeting, PM Lee welcomed the US' commitment to continue deepening its engagement of the Asia-Pacific region, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement. PM Lee and Senator Corker exchanged views on regional and international developments, including the progress of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations. Both sides underscored the importance of the successful conclusion of the TPP Agreement. PM Lee and Senator Corker also affirmed the excellent bilateral relations between Singapore and the US.

Senator Corker also met separately with Minister for Trade & Industry Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen, and Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Grace Fu earlier today.

Senator Corker, who is on his first Congressional visit to Southeast Asia, will be in Singapore until Aug 7.
