Vehicle-watch scheme also at Choa Chu Kang

Fifty-two volunteers in Choa Chu Kang have signed up to use their in-car cameras to deter crime in their estates under the Vehicles on Watch programme.

Under it, their in-car cameras will record continuous footage of the surroundings when their vehicles are parked.

Health Minister Gan Kim Yong, who is also an MP for Chua Chu Kang GRC, launched the programme, which originated in Bedok in May, at three carparks in Teck Whye last Saturday. They are the open carpark at Blocks 15-20 Teck Whye Lane and two multi-storey carparks, at Block 135A Teck Whye Lane and Block 165 Teck Whye Crescent.

These carparks are identified by signs at their entrances stating that the place is "guarded by vehicles with in-car cameras". Volunteers can submit footage of suspicious activity to the police. The sight of in-car cameras also serves as a deterrent to would-be criminals.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Wilson Lim, Commander of Jurong Division, said: "Through this programme, we hope to bring the residents together to play an active role in looking out for one another's vehicles, and ride on the increasing popularity of in-car cameras among vehicle owners to enhance safety and security at carparks."
