Vietnamese held over death of girlfriend

AYER HITAM - Police arrested a 23-year-old Vietnamese factory worker after he had allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death at a workers' hostel of a furniture factory.

District police chief Asst Comm Din Ahmad said the body of the 38-year-old Vietnamese woman was discovered by the factory owner on Sunday at the shipping container cabin where his Vietnamese male workers were staying.

"The victim was found lying on a bed with a deep wound on her neck.

"We also discovered a knife at the scene which was believed to have been used to stab the victim," he told reporters after launching the district level Ops Selamat at Ayer Hitam toll plaza.

ACP Din said police had managed to track the suspect, about 2km away from the factory, at about 3.30am yesterday.

He said the suspect claimed to have brought the woman to the hostel for some food and a drinking session with three other Vietnamese men. He claimed to have accidentally stabbed the victim.

"We are still looking for the other three men, who are aged between 25 and 35," ACP Din added.
