Wet and warm for next two weeks

TAKE an umbrella when you head out in the next two weeks, as warm days coupled with thundery showers are on the horizon.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) said in its latest weather forecast that short thundery showers are likely on three to five days, mostly in the late morning and early afternoon.

This is because of the strong solar heating of land areas.

Maximum daytime temperatures of 34 deg C and warm nights can also be expected on some days, added the agency. This is higher than the long-term average daily maximum temperature of 31.3 deg C for June.

The number of rainy days in the next two weeks, though, is expected to be fewer than that for the first half of this month, said the NEA.

There could also be slightly hazy conditions on a few days, especially in the early morning, because of the accumulation of particulate matter under light winds, it said.

In the first week of this month, Singapore experienced a few warm days, especially in the north- western areas, where the maximum daily temperature recorded was around 35 deg C.

The warm weather has affected al fresco eateries such as Original Sin restaurant in Chip Bee Gardens. General manager Sayeed Haque, 42, said he has noticed more customers requesting to sit indoors since the weather started heating up about two months ago.

"When we have no indoor seats, some customers will walk away and go to another restaurant," he said.
