Winner's strategy - buy more copies to get more chances

SINGAPORE - He buys at least four copies of The New Paper every day to have a higher chance of winning a prize at the TNP Bonus Challenge.

Taxi driver Tan Yong Koon, 62, also had another strategy.

“Just like Toto, I would buy each copy at a different place,” he says with a laugh.

And his strategy paid off when he won an iPad Mini on Saturday.

Mr Tan has been trying to win every TNP Bonus Challenge, but he had not been lucky – until Saturday.

He says: “I thought that Saturday was going to be an unlucky day as well. I was just tallying the number, which is a routine for me every day.”

“At first, I didn’t even realise that I had a straight row. It was only when I looked at it again that I realised I had won.”

The father of two children, aged seven and 12, says: “I am so old that I don’t have much use for it, but I’ll pass it to my children who can use it to connect to the Internet and do their homework.”

Despite winning, he still hopes to snag another prize and will continue to buy multiple copies.

“It’s no issue because I like The New Paper for its interesting local news and sports reports,” says Mr Tan.

Past winners include Mr Huang Weijie, 25,who won a cash prize of $7,000.
