Woman charged with hurting landlord with paper cutter

A 34-YEAR-OLD woman was yesterday charged with hurting her landlord with a paper cutter and she may later face a more serious charge.

Malaysian Woo Mui Mee is accused of inflicting cuts on the left hand of 76-year-old Wong Keng Woo in his three-room Housing Board flat in Yishun Ring Road at about 10pm on Saturday.

Woo, who was clad in a red polo shirt and dark blue bermudas, looked calm as the charge was read to her in Mandarin.

She was seen nodding her head. At times, she looked around the courtroom.

The prosecution applied successfully for her to be remanded at Central police division headquarters for investigation.

The prosecutor told the court that the charge was very likely to be upgraded.

Asked by District Judge Eddy Tham, he said Mr Wong had died, and that the relationship between Mr Wong and Woo was one of landlord and tenant.

Police said they received a call at about 10pm that day, and found Mr Wong lying motionless in his home.

He was pronounced dead at about 11.40pm. Neighbours had heard a commotion lasting about 15 minutes at about 8pm.

If convicted of the current charge, Woo faces a jail term of up to seven years and a fine.

The case will be mentioned on Monday.
