Woman claims she received death threats after secretly filming Geylang drug deal

SINGAPORE - A woman who secretly filmed and uploaded a video of a drug deal in Geylang claims she has been on the receiving end of death threats and other forms of intimidation online.

Fed up, Ms Irene Tan posted a Facebook status asking for a meeting with the parties who were threatening her at a coffeeshop in Yishun, Chinese evening daily Lianhe Wanbao reported.

When no one showed up after two hours of waiting, she lodged a police report.

The video in question was uploaded onto Facebook in December last year. It shows a man selling what appears to be bottles of syrups and pills at a back alley in Geylang to Ms Tan, who was secretly filming the exchange.

On Sunday (Jan 10), she posted a video on Facebook, saying that she would be at the coffeeshop at Block 428, Yishun Ave 11, and taunting the parties threatening her to meet her there.

She waited at the coffeeshop from 1pm to 3pm, but no one showed up.

Ms Tan told Lianhe Wanbao that on the very day that she uploaded the video last month, she received a call in which a man threatened to cut off her hands. Frightened, she immediately reported the call to the police.

She added that she had continuously received many malicious comments, and that someone had posted a video of a person falling from a building and photos of a funeral on her Facebook profile just days ago.

"There are about seven or eight people making threats. Some have asked me to meet them in Jurong. Another said that I was a coward who only hid behind a computer," she explained.

When the meeting at the coffeeshop failed to materialise, Ms Tan proceeded to the Yishun North Neighbourhood Police Centre to lodge a report. She then posted two photos on her Facebook page, saying that those who had threatened her would regret it.

According to Lianhe Wanbao, the police confirmed that a report had been lodged.

On Ms Tan's Facebook, many netizens expressed their concern and advised her to be calm over the threats she had received.

One netizen, Darren Delong, said: "Just focus on people who cares abt you (sic). Ignore those who tries (sic) to bring you down. It's not worth your time."

Many also advised her to remain calm and allow the matter to be handled by the police.
