Woman dies after fall in toilet

A 75-year-old woman died after falling in the toilet yesterday morning.

Madam Tan Ngan Choo's husband, 78, who discovered her body on the floor of the toilet, immediately shouted for help. This alerted neighbours who called the police.

The incident happened around 8am in their rental unit at Block 25 Jalan Berseh.

Madam Tan's daughter, Madam Carol Ng, 44, was seen wailing outside the two-room unit when the undertakers arrived to take the body away.

The administrative assistant later said her mother worked as a dishwasher in the Orchard area.

She said: "She would wake up very early in the morning, at 4am or 5am. She would usually go downstairs for a walk. She could still walk, albeit a bit slow."

Madam Ng added that her father and mother have been living there by themselves for about 10 years.

Madam Tan's youngest sister, who is 61 and declined to be named, said her sister was supposed to meet her and other siblings at 8am or 9am yesterday for breakfast.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said they received a call at 8.24am informing them that a woman had a fall in the toilet of her house. When paramedics arrived, the woman was already dead.

Police are investigating the cause of death.
