SINGAPORE - An accident between a taxi and a car on New Year's eve resulted in the death of a woman in her 70s, police said.
There were eight casualties in the accident that happened at around 5.40pm at Lentor Avenue near the Seletar Expressway exit, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said.
All eight were taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in three ambulances. One was reported to be seriously injured while seven suffered minor injuries, SCDF said.
A woman in her 70s subsequently succumbed to her injuries on Thursday night, police said.
The 78-year-old victim, Madam Lim, was on her way to hospital, and the car was being driven by her grandson, Shin Min Daily News reported.
Her eldest son Mr Oh Cheng San, 60, told Shin Min that she was feeling unwell while they were having lunch on Thursday, and her 23-year-old grandson was taking her to hospital for a check up.
Her grandson, who is the son of Madam Lim's third son, injured his left leg in the accident. He said that his grandmother was sitting in the back seat with the maid. It not clear how seriously hurt the maid was.
The younger Oh claimed he was travelling straight while the taxi was turning when they collided.
"I feel very guilty, as I was the driver," he told Shin Min.
The Oh family runs the Pin Si and Gim Tim brands of restaurants and catering services.
