Woman slashed after quarrel with ex-hubby

MALACCA - A 41-year-old woman is fighting for her life in hospital after a violent quarrel with her former husband over their three children.

The woman was allegedly slashed by her ex-husband, 52, during a heated argument in an oil palm estate on Saturday when he went to her house in Merlimau here to claim their three sons, aged 13, seven and four.

The couple are said to have divorced five years ago.

Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Muhd Nur Hishamuddin Hashim said the former husband became furious and brandished a machete before forcing the woman and the boys to get on his motorcycle.

All five then rode to the oil palm estate about a kilometre away.

"The man instructed his ex-wife to follow him behind a tree, where he slashed her several times as their eldest son watched the attack," DSP Muhd Nur Hishamuddin said yesterday.

"The woman screamed at her eldest son to ride the motorcycle back to their house.

"The boy managed to do so and informed his stepfather," he said.

The stepfather immediately alerted police, who rushed to the estate and found the woman lying in a pool of blood with the alleged assailant missing.

The woman was rushed to the Merlimau polyclinic before being transferred to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital where her condition deteriorated.

DSP Muhd Nur Hishamuddin said police tracked down and detained the man at Felda Bukit Puchong in Bera, Pahang, at 4am yesterday.

He said the man would be brought here to be remanded and to facilitate investigations.

The woman has a 17-year-old son from a previous marriage. He lives in Kuala Pilah.
