Woman whacks boy with umbrella on MRT train

SINGAPORE - A woman was filmed hitting a child with an umbrella on an MRT train on Wednesday.

A Stomp reader who captured the incident on video told the citizen journalism website that it took place at about 5.30pm on a train heading towards Tanah Merah station.

She said: "The lady was hitting this small kid from the centre cabin of the train till the last cabin. She was hitting him non-stop till the umbrella handle broke off."

The Stomp contributor said that the woman only stopped her beating when a male commuter intervened.

She said: "No one stopped the lady until a guy stood up and intervened. She scolded him back and looked at the small boy while saying, 'You will "kena" (be punished) more once we get home!'"
