Workers' Party (WP) chief Low Thia Khiang said last night that he will stay on to contest in Aljunied GRC at the next polls.
Mr Low, who spoke to reporters before his Meet-the-People session, added that his party is committed to avoiding three-cornered fights as much as possible.
The WP won Aljunied GRC with 54.7 per cent of votes in the 2011 General Election.
Apart from Mr Low, the other WP members on the team are Sylvia Lim, Chen Show Mao, Pritam Singh and Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap.
Meanwhile, blogger Roy Ngerng has submitted an application to join the Reform Party (RP), party secretary-general Kenneth Jeyaretnam said yesterday.
The application will have to be approved by the RP's central executive committee. If confirmed, there is a possibility that Mr Ngerng could be fielded as part of the RP team to contest in Ang Mo Kio GRC against the People's Action Party team helmed by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Mr Jeyaratnam said.
Mr Ngerng, who was found by the High Court in November to have defamed PM Lee, posed a question on his blog on Tuesday asking if he should run in the election.
About 69 per cent of netizens who responded to his online poll said he should run.
