Snoopy and Hello Kitty cookies hot sellers for CNY

GEORGE TOWN - Innovation has worked its magic into the Chinese New Year cookies with stylish shapes like oranges, strawberries, frogs and even favourite cartoon characters like Snoopy and Hello Kitty.
Housewife Alice Hong, 26, said her Snoopy Coco Cookies and FaCai Kitty Cookies are the bestsellers among the 20 different types of cookies she sold from her home in Chemor Lane, Jalan Perak.
This year, she has also come up with three new cookies, namely Lucky Orange Cookies, OngOng Strawberry Cookies and Huat Cai Pandan Cookies, which symbolises heng, ong and huat (fortune, luck and wealth in Hokkien).
Also on Hong's list are traditional ones such as the peanut and cashew nut cookies, almond cookies, and the kuih kapit (love letters).
"For coffee lovers, you must try our Cappuccino cookies," said Hong.
"We have been selling cookies for the festive season for the last 15 years.
"By adding in some creativity, we keep customers coming back for more.
"I have also started marketing my products on Facebook and it has attracted customers from outstation," she said yesterday.
Hong's cookies are priced from RM16 (S$5.20) to RM22 (S$7.20) per small bottle.
