The Straits Times to launch new Android tablet app

SINGAPORE- The Straits Times (ST), the English flagship newspaper published by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), will launch its new Straits Times app for Android tablets on Google Play Store from tomorrow, 18 July.

The new app comes with breaking news and push notifications, a 7-day archive and full print content. With the introduction of the new Android tablet app, the ST iPad package will be renamed the ST Tablet package and the new app will become part of this package. Current subscribers to the iPad package or the All-in-One package will automatically enjoy access to the new app on their Android tablets with immediate effect. The stand-alone ST iPad package will be discontinued.

Mr Warren Fernandez, Editor of ST, said: "With this new Android app, our readers can now enjoy ST reports whenever they want on more platforms. It adds to our mission to bring the news to you wherever you are."

In conjunction with the release of its new Android tablet app, The Straits Times will launch a subscription campaign starting from tomorrow with an array of attractive gifts up for grabs.

New subscribers or subscribers who currently pay through their news vendors can sign up for a three-year plan with SPH and choose either a Samsung GALAXY Tab3 with 8" display (Wifi Version) or a Samsonite Optimum Spinner Trolley Bag.

The soon-to-be-launched Samsung GALAXY Tab 3 (8.0") WiFi is packed with enhanced content and intuitive design to provide consumers with various ways to view, listen, create, and share meaningful events and special content, whether they are surfing the web at home or reading during their daily commute.

Existing SPH subscribers are also eligible for the one or two years plan when they upgrade or renew their subscription to The Straits Times All-in-One package.
