Stranger buys couple a meal at restaurant -- then leaves note with unusual request
A grieving widower in Canada was reminded of himself and his wife by a couple dining at a restaurant, which led him to performing this heartwarming act of kindness.
In the process, he left them a note on a napkin which came with an unusual request -- to pass on the good deed.
The touching note read:
"Hi! You don't know me but my beautiful wife of 43 years died last week. Tonight I dined alone for the first time. You remind me of us many years ago.
"Please allow me to buy your dinner. Enjoy! It will put a smile on Carol's face and make me happy ... for now. Happy New Year!"
A picture of the note went viral after it was uploaded on Imgur and Reddit.
According to online news reports, Lee Ballantyne had been dining at Cicco's Ristaurante in Barrie when he spotted the couple.
His wife, who was also his high school sweetheart, had died on Dec 30 at the age of 62.
