Stumbling block to finding one's way

Stumbling block to finding one's way

I was recently involved in a survey project that required me to visit homes across the island.

Each person in the team had to cover two to three housing estates to get selected individuals to complete a survey.

I had to cover 15 HDB blocks in Teck Whye Crescent, Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang, which sounded simple enough.

But once I reached the estates, I found it was not as easy as I thought.

The block numbers were too small, making it difficult for someone standing at a distance to see them. Bigger and bolder numbers would have helped.

In some cases, the numbers painted at the second-floor level were obscured by tree branches, other buildings or the roofs of sheltered walkways.

Then there were numbers painted at the ends of the block. Someone facing the block would not be able to see them.

Wouldn't it be better to display the numbers on all four sides of the block, so that people approaching from any direction can see them?
