Thaipusam music: Onus on community to follow rules

The return of live music to Thaipusam after 42 years would not have been possible if not for the efforts of the Hindu Endowments Board (HEB) and other members of the Hindu community ("Live music at Thaipusam after 42 years"; Monday).

However, as HEB chairman R. Jayachandran aptly stated, "the pressure is on to ensure everything goes smoothly without any violations, so rules can be relaxed further, instead of tightened, for Thaipusam 2017".

It is now the responsibility of the Hindu community, together with participants, to strictly adhere to the rules governing the event and not cause any problems that would put paid to all the efforts.

I look forward to a peaceful and holy event this weekend.
