Are we already in March? Time really flies; it feels like I've just celebrated Christmas two weeks ago. March also sees the short 1­week break for students and teachers in Singapore!

This is why we at GET.com have listed 5 Free and Fun Activities in March​for everyone to enjoy before we head into the second quarter of 2016.

1. i Light Marina Bay

Starting on the 4th of March and lasting till the 27th of March, i Light Marina Bay 2016 will transform our lovely Marina Bay waterfront into an open art museum glittering with light art installations. This year's festival will display 25 of the best works from artists from Singapore and 12 other countries.

Other than enjoying the pretty lights, you can also look forward to various festival activities such as night bazaars and of course, food trucks and gourmet treats at the Festival Village.

When​: 4 March to 27 March, 7:30pm to 11:00pm

2. School's Out! A Botanic Gardens Movie Series

Catch the "Hotel Transylvania 2" with the kiddos or organise a fun night out with friends watching a movie amidst the greenery of our lovely Botanic Gardens. Pack yourself a picnic basket, lay out your mats and enjoy the night under the stars!

When​: 12 March, 7:30pm to 9:30pm

3. Earth Hour

The annual Earth Hour event is a commitment for individuals to help the earth by switching off non­essential lights for an hour on a chosen day each year.

While you may feel that 1 hour without electricity may not do much for the earth, imagine the worldwide effort in 172 countries taking part in this event, uniting millions around the world in action towards the awareness of climate change.

What you can do to make it meaningful is to organise an event at Earth Hour's website. Don't worry, it's no hassle at all since the committee has kindly provided a fuss­free starter­kit and made it so easy for you to spread your cause via social media.

When​: 19 March, 8:30pm to 9:30pm

4. Children's Festival

Gardens by the Bay is organising a Children's festival during the week of the March holidays. There will be loads of free activities to take part in and it provides a great opportunity for parent­child bonding.

Some highlights include the Water Play Performance at the Children's Garden, an interactive storytelling session amidst the beautiful setting of the Flower Dome, and an LED Performance - Fairytale Galaxy - at the Supertree Grove.

There are also game booths, craft booths, balloon sculpting, magic tricks and even a bouncy castle!

*Please note that all programmes are free, except for the train ride and food. Admission charges to the Flower Dome apply.

When​: 12 March to 20 March, 2:00pm to 6:30pm (weekdays), 10:00am to 7:45pm (weekends) ­ although keep in mind that each show/venue has a different schedule so make sure to check their website for more info.

5. St Patrick's Day 2016

It's time to put on your green shirt and prepare for a night of feasting and drinking! For St Patrick's day this year, expect a host of exciting programmes all around the Singapore River ranging from free popcorn, Irish dance performances and rock bands to special food and beverage promotions surrounding the Irish tradition.
