SIA first Asian airline to offer expedited screening in US airports

Singapore Airlines (SIA) will be offering eligible passengers expedited security screening procedures in US airports, the airline said in a media release on Friday (May 26).

SIA is the first Asian airline to participate in the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)'s Precheck programme.

Under the programme, 'low-risk' travellers can expect shorter wait times at the checkpoint as they will be provided with a separate lane for security screening during departure.

There, they do not need to remove jackets, belts, laptops, liquids, or shoes.

The Precheck programme is open to US citizens and permanent residents but Singaporeans may apply for the Global Entry Programme for US$100 (S$138).

Successful applicants of these programmes will receive a Known Traveller Number (KTN) which is given to the airline during booking or check-in.

Once their KTN is recognised, the TSA Precheck logo will be printed on their boarding pass.

Children aged 12 and below may also enjoy the programme's benefits if they travel with passengers who have a valid KTN.

In the coming months, SIA passengers travelling to and from the US will also have the option to use a self-printed boarding pass or mobile boarding pass.

This will allow those without check-in bags to proceed directly to the gate at the airport after they have checked in online.
