Five haunted houses await you at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios, including a scary hawker centre

More scares than ever are promised this year at Halloween.

Universal Studios Singapore at Resorts World Singapore is putting up five haunted houses, up from four last year. There are also two scare zones and two live shows planned. The event creators are getting inspiration from local sites.

One of the houses is named Old Changi Hospital and it will have gore, dead patients and a pontianak (a female ghost in Malay folklore) who wanders the derelict hallways.

Then there is the Hawker Centre Massacre horror house, where food poisoning transforms the victims into savage flesh-eating creatures.

Halloween Horror Nights, a yearly affair that is in its sixth year, has been a popular attraction, with 170,000 revellers visiting last year.

The organisers are going all out to continue sending chills down visitors' spines.

Mr Scott Peterson, director of events and production at Resorts World Sentosa, said: "With a record of five haunted houses, our first-ever theatrical procession inspired by the Day of the Dead... Halloween Horror Nights are back with a bigger and scarier edition than before."

During the media sneak peek, actors had make-up piled on to make them look gruesome and scary.

One had eyes placed all over her and another had rivulets of blood on her face, a look that took 2½ hours to complete.

The event opens its doors on Sept 30 for five weekends till Oct 31.
