Young family travels the world after dad sells app for US$54 million

When dad is a tech millionaire, the only thing left to do is to pack up and hit the road indefinitely.

That's exactly what the Gee family from the United States did.

Calling themselves The Bucket List Family, Garrett, 26, Jessica, 30, and their two children, Dorothy, 3, and one-year-old Manilla, are certainly the envy of all young families struggling to find the perfect balance of work and play.

Garrett and Jessica had met in Russia in 2007 while they were serving as missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and have been married since 2009.

Fortunately for the Gees, they nipped the problem in the bud when Garrett, sold his mobile-scanning app, Scan, to Snapchat in 2015 for a cool US$54 million (S$72 million).

According to People Magazine, the family then stashed the money in the bank and sold most of their possessions - online sales came up with US$45,000 - which they used to fund their travels.

The Gees then embarked on a six-month trip around the world, which seems to have extended since.

The family has kept up a faithful travelogue on their Instagram, detailing their adventures in Singapore, Fiji and even in Tonga.

Most recently, the Gees have dived with whales in Dominica, flown drones in Antigua and swam as mermaids in Anguilla.

So why travel with young children in tow?

Jessica has the perfect explanation for it in the family's blog.

She wrote: "I already worry about my kids at home every day.

"What better way to teach my kids about animals or foods or how to be kind to everyone than by taking them around the world to do it in person?"
