Usher in the New Year with food and festive events at Pan Pacific Singapore

SINGAPORE - There is nothing more heart-warming than ringing in the New Year with family and friends.

If you are a fan of good food, champagne, and a convivial atmosphere, you can do no better by making a reservation at Pan Pacific Singapore's Edge this joyous season.

The award-winning restaurant is offering a decadent buffet spread for its New Year's Eve Dinner and New Year's Day Champagne Brunch packages, featuring premium items such as fresh Alaskan King Crab, exquisite Ohmi Wagyu beef, ambrosial foie gras pate and unlimited servings of Veuve Clicquot Champagne.

Get ready for a culinary awakening you will never forget, with seven distinct live kitchens preparing a lavish array of Asian and Pacific cuisine before your eyes.

Here we list out the top highlights not to be missed:

Two-metre cheese board

First up is the unique two-metre long cheese and bread table with a distinctive selection of 30 varieties of artisanal cheese from around the world.

Edge is one of the few restaurants in Singapore which serves Raclette - a type of Swiss delicacy where the aromatic cheese is first heated up, and then served for savoring with pickles and potatoes.

Seafood galore

What will surely delight any buffet lover is the presentation of succulent marine harvest at Edge, including fresh seafood delicacies like snow crabs, Alaskan King Crabs, scallops and Boston lobsters.

The oysters are shucked before you by a chef, ensuring their freshness. All that is left for you to do is to enjoy them with a dash of lemon juice and hot sauce!

Ohmi wagyu beef

Ohmi wagyu holds the title for being one of Japan's "top three wagyu beef", according to the Japan National Tourism Organisation. Raised in Shiga Prefecture, the cattle are treated with extreme care to ensure fine meat grain and luscious marbling. Indulge in this iconic delicacy by simply handing over a token with your table number, and the fragrant grilled meats will be delivered to you when they are ready. It is a welcome change from other buffets, where you have to stand around waiting in line.

While you are helping yourself to the exquisitely marbled beef, do also try the tender Kurobuta pork collar, veal, pork and garlic sausages, as well as the lemon and olive oil marinated lamb rack.

Pan-seared foie gras

Another delectable item not to be missed is Edge's generous slice of rich and creamy foie gras on toast. You will also fall in love with the freshly prepared duck ravioli, wrapped in thin pasta skin and served steaming in a plate of truffle sauce. Unique to Edge's New Year special menu are also cold court bouillon salmon en gelee and lobster and mango terrine.

Taste of Asia

If you love local and Asian cuisine, look no further than the Singaporean, Indian, Malay and Thai live kitchens. We recommend the laksa, especially good with its thick and flavorful coconut curry soup. It would be be no surprise if you and your guests went back for seconds.

The satay selection is also a top pick of ours, with its unique rendition of duck satay. Another dish distinct to Edge is the lobster tandoori (below), cooked with an aromatic mixture of spices to a golden perfection.

At the Thai live kitchen, enjoy the show as you get a mango salad freshly tossed in front of you. The wonderful thing about Edge is that you can interact with the chefs as they prepare your favourite dishes according to your preferences. Like a little less spice or salt with that? Just let the chef know and they will be happy to prepare the dish to perfection for you.

While you are enjoying your New Year's meal to the fullest, you will be pleasantly surprised by staff pushing around carts of appetising dishes such as home-cured Nordic-style whole salmon gravlax, crispy Kurobuta pork belly and traditional Valencian seafood paella. Served directly to your table, it is nearly impossible to resist these feasts-on-wheels.

Edge offers an incredibly comprehensive and delightful festive spread that reading about it simply does not do it justice. There is a whole roast beef tomahawk, suckling pig, festive hams and roasts, cured meats... the list goes on and on.

For those with an insatiable sweet tooth, there are at least 20 types of desserts to choose from. Ranking high in guests' hearts are the adorable Candy Crush-themed little cakes, dyed blue with a rainbow of gummy bears on top of them. The heavenly and creamy durian pengat also earns top marks for leaving us wanting more. Have we mentioned that there is a life-size edible ginger bread house stocked with the most delightful array of desserts yet?

Throughout your dining experience, you and your guests will enjoy unlimited Veuve Clicquot champagne, wines, beers and cocktails to celebrate the New Year in style and sophistication. But don't drink too much, because you would not want to miss out on the exciting line-up of events Pan Pacific Singapore has organised to usher in 2015.
