SINGAPORE - Singaporeans will welcome faster immigration clearance at Australia's airports ("Self-service trial for Singapore e-passports at Aussie airports"; last Thursday).
As reported, Singapore was chosen as the first country in Asia whose citizens can use the self-service immigration kiosks because of the large number of Singaporean visitors to Australia - 385,300 last year.
This number would be much higher if Australia granted Singaporean visitors visa-free entry.
I visited Tasmania last November and found the entry visa fee of A$130 (S$147) too high.
Also, the online visa application process was unduly extensive, taking me more than 45 minutes to complete.
Singapore extends visa-free entry to Australians, and I hope Australia can reciprocate this.
