Waste collectors must send recyclables for recycling

SINGAPORE - Under the National Recycling Programme, recycling bins are provided for residents to deposit their recyclables without having to sort them into different waste types ("Does what's collected really get recycled?" by Mr Daniel Tan Yong Nam; last Saturday).

Glass bottles and containers are among the four main types of recyclables collected under the programme, the others being paper, plastic and metal.

The recyclables are collected by trucks designated for collection of recyclables only and sent for sorting at material recovery facilities.

The sorted recyclables are then sent for recycling.

The public waste collectors are contractually bound to send for recycling all the recyclables that they have collected.

Financial penalties will be imposed for any failure to comply with these requirements.

To provide feedback on the collection of waste and recyclables, the public can contact us directly on 1800-2255-632 or provide feedback via the myENV app, which can be downloaded on iOS or Android smartphones.
