4 simple face-slimming exercises for that coveted V-shaped face

Contouring has made it possible to fake the appearance of well-defined cheekbones and a jawline that can cut glass, but you don't want to be spending an hour putting on makeup all the time. The good news is that the face, like any other part of our body, has muscles that you can work out to get rid of any fleshy bits you would rather not have.

Before you embark on the following exercises, take a look at yourself and the people in your family. Oftentimes face shape is genetically inherited, and what you think is "fat" might just be your innate facial structure. Oh, and ask your friends if they really think that you need to slim down your face, because we do tend to think we look worse than we actually do!

One thing that can dramatically help transform your features is to check your posture. Straightening your back and neck can actually help to "suck in" any excess fat. On the other hand, slouching actually pushes your chin and neck forward and downward, creating the illusion of unflattering bulges and loose skin.

Sculpt out your cheekbones

Using your forefinger and middle finger, press on your cheekbones and make an exaggerated O-shape with your mouth, like a very big yawn. You should feel some resistance in the muscles under your cheekbones. Hold this for about five seconds and repeat 10 times.

Burn that cheeky baby fat

Suck in your cheeks and and your lips to make a "fish face". Without changing position, try to smile as wide as as you can. Hold this for five seconds and repeat until you feel the burn!

Define your jawline

Sit straight and tilt your head back to look at the ceiling. While keeping your lips tightly closed, tilt your jaw as if you were opening your mouth. Hold for five seconds and repeat five times.

Making sure that you have only one chin

Tilt your head until you are looking directly at the ceiling and purse your lips, as if you were making a kissy face. Hold this for 10 seconds and repeat 10 times.

Aside from these exercises, something that really helps is to chew gum. Chewing gum works out the muscles in your jaw and cheeks, and if you chew regularly and intentionally, you can achieve the same effect as the above facial exercises. Seems like it's time for a quick shopping trip across the causeway, don't you think!

Keep in mind that keeping active, which means exercising not just your face but your whole body, will also contribute to slimming down your face. When it comes to actual exercise for fitness, losing weight in general also means weight loss for your face. Remember, staying healthy is just as important as looking good.

By the same token, all the facial exercises in the world will be for nought if you proceed to indulge in junk food right after. Strive for a balanced and nutritional diet and the battle is half won!
