Chinese star Gao Yuan Yuan weds actor Mark Chao

Taipei - Taiwanese-Canadian actor Mark Chao capped his wedding to Chinese star Gao Yuanyuan with an after-party that lasted till the wee hours last Saturday.

A tipsy Vicki Zhao retired early but other stars such as Carina Lau, Angelababy and Ethan Ruan and his girlfriend Tiffany Hsu stayed to party at the Le Meridien Taipei.

Chao, 30, and Gao, 35, fell in love while playing a couple in the Chen Kaige cyberbullying drama Caught In The Web (2012).

"You're savage in overtaking me. I thought I would marry first!" said Ruan at the Friday afternoon wedding, when funnyman Jacky Wu, who was the emcee, asked the guests to quiz the couple. Ruan and Hsu have been dating for seven years.

Also among the 400-odd guests were director Chen who was the ceremony's witness, TV host Chang Hsiao-yen, singer JJ Lin, actor Huang Bo, actress Alyssa Chia and directors Johnnie To and Tsai Yueh-hsun.

The groomsmen were Chao's four gangster-playing co-stars in Monga (2010), including Ruan.

Gao, according to some reports, wore a Chloe embroidered gown for the rings and vows ceremony, and a red French lace gown and another Chloe number for the dinner. Her jewels were sponsored by Chaumet. Chao was in a Ermenegildo Zegna suit.

They had registered their wedding in Beijing in June and, on Friday morning, also registered for marriage in Taipei.

The love-struck couple spoke effusively about each other.

Recounting his marriage vow to reporters later, Chao said he had found a "perfect woman" and Gao was a better partner than he could imagine and he promised never to cheat on her.

In return, Gao borrowed a song lyric from a TV romance she starred in to tell him, "I waited and finally got you. Luckily I did not give up (my search)".

In front of reporters later, she reminded Chao that their romance began as a "sad story" because they were based in two separate cities.

But she continued, saying: "Where you are will be our home." She added: "All that you do exceeds all that I imagine of a good man."

Apple Daily said they chose to wed on Nov 28 as it was the date of their first embrace. The wedding featured logos of two kissing rabbits because he gave her a fairy-tale book about rabbits early in their romance.
