Asian celebrity wedding of the year: Third time's the charm for Christy Chung?

From Christy Chung to Linda Chung, these Asian female celebrities who tied the knot this year might all be stars in their own right, but we love how they all chose to have weddings in their own special ways - be it a more low-key event or a huge wedding bash with the works.

Taiwanese actress Shu Qi finally said 'I do' to Hong Kong actor Stephen Fung in early September, after dating on and off for 20 years. The wedding was a private and simple affair, with Fung quashing any rumours that Shu Qi was pregnant.

Chinese model-actress Lynn Hung also quietly got married to her Hong Kong businessman beau Ken Kwok in October, announcing her marriage with a simple Weibo message. However, her wedding photos were far from simple. For the photo shoot, the couple travelled to Macau's luxury resort Studio City with a famed photographer helming the lens.

Model-actress Lynn Hung releases wedding photoshoot images

  • Lynn Hung's fans can now feast their eyes on the wedding photos that the actress-model shared with the media.
  • The 36-year-old got hitched to Hong Kong businessman Ken Kwok, 38, after two years of dating.
  • For the photo shoot, the couple travelled to Macau's luxury resort Studio City with a famed photographer helming the lens.
  • In an opulent bar, a charmed Kwok gazed at his bride who was clad in a backless black gown.
  • The couple also flaunted their toned bodies in a pool party photo - complete with colourful floats.
  • Another photo showed the newlyweds doing a champagne toast in the back of a car filled with balloons and pom poms.
  • The photo that stood out from the album may be the one of Hung in a form-fitting cheongsam while her Chinese suit-clad husband drank from a tea cup - a nod to her role as Ip Man's wife in the hit martial arts film series.
  • After the photo shoot, the blissfully married Hung said that she has found the "Ip Man" of her life in Kwok, a man who will protect her.
  • On Weibo, she wrote simply, "We're married," and attached photos taken that day at a lawyer's office.
  • Hung's manager was their witness when they signed the marriage papers.
  • Ken Kwok, the younger brother of actress Kenix Kwok, is said to have been married for a year before splitting up from his wife in 2013.
  • He and Hung, 36, started dating in 2014, the year after she and Aaron Kwok split up. She confirmed their engagement in March 2016.

Popular TVB actress Linda Chung held her wedding ceremony at the start of the year in Vancouver, Canada, just a few days after a shock announcement she married 41-year-old Canadian-Chinese chiropractor Jeremy Leung in Dec 2015. After months of rampant speculation that she was pregnant, Chung eventually revealed on Mother's Day this year that she was indeed expecting a baby. In August, she gave birth to her first child in Vancouver.

Taiwanese television stars Ruby Lin and Wallace Huo got married in Bali back in July after dating for six months. The wedding at the Bulgari Resort Bali was a reunion of sorts for cast of the 1990s hit drama My Fair Princess that included Zhao Wei, Lin and Fan Bingbing. Lin and her husband are also expecting their first child due early next year.

They say that third time's the charm, so our pick for wedding of the year is Canadian actress Christy Chung's marine-themed wedding affair. The twice-divorced Chung wore a bridal gown for the first time when she married Golden Zhang Lunshuo in November. The 46-year-old even joked: "In the next life, can you marry me sooner?" We're sure fans of the actress wish for nothing but everlasting love and happiness for her family from this year on!

Christy Chung and younger beau tie the knot in lavish, marine-themed ceremony

  • Wedding bells sounded for Canadian actress Christy Chung a third time on Tuesday (Nov 8) as she exchanged her vows with fiance Golden Zhang Lunshuo.
  • The couple shared photos of their big day on China's social media site Sina Weibo, revealing a matching set of traditional Chinese wedding gowns.
  • Also known as the kua, Chung's elaborate wedding dress took 2,200 hours of sewing.
  • As per Chinese custom, she also donned dragon and phoenix bangles, necklaces and rings to usher in a harmonious and prosperous marriage.
  • Although Chung has been married twice, this is the first time she has performed the traditional Chinese wedding rites.
  • The 46-year-old told the media that she never thought she would have the opportunity to marry again, and did not expect the third one to be the most fulfilling.
  • The couple changed into a more modern piece for the evening banquet, which was based on a marine theme, bringing back memories of Chung's role as a mermaid in 1994 film Mermaid Got Married.
  • Earlier, the couple had sent out wedding invites which showed a photo of them dressed as a mermaid and a merman.
  • Chung walked in with a dazzling mermaid gown with an impressive train cascading off her waist.
  • Her 34-year-old groom complemented her in a simple white pressed suit adorned with similar shimmering embellishments.
  • Guests were treated to a generous door gift pack, which included lipstick and skin care products. Each blue box had a pair of kissing fishes carved into it, representing eternal bliss.
  • Chung has three daughters from her previous marriages. Her eldest, 18-year-old Yasmine Ross, put her studies on hold and travelled back to Beijing to witness her mother's union. Ross, along with her younger sisters, attended the wedding as flower girls.
  • To celebrate their union, Zhang had partnered with the three girls to produce a new song, "Honey Honey" for Chung. The music video was aired just before the wedding.
  • Despite their 12-years age difference, the couple, who met on a dating show, battled heavy criticism and announced their plans to get hitched on the same programme.
  • Chung had also told the media that she wants to have a child with Zhang, allaying whatever fears her in-laws may have on continuing the family line.
  • Chung's daughters have also reportedly accepted Zhang as their new father, as the actor assured his parents, saying: "Blood relationships are not as important as having sincerity and trust. We have become closer than ever and we will be happy living together."
