Beauty secrets of a beauty brand ambassador

Ms Maggie Ford Danielson, the ambassador for American beauty label Benefit Cosmetics.

The ambassador for Benefit Cosmetics has been at the brand for seven years. The American beauty label was founded by Ms Ford Danielson's mother and aunt. Both have retired from the company.

Launched in 1976, Benefit was bought over by luxury goods conglomerate Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton in 1999.

Ms Ford Danielson and her younger sister Annie, 29, are global beauty authorities for the brand. She was recently in town to introduce the brand's line-up for the year.

What is the one beauty product you cannot step out of the house without?

Benefit Gimme Brow brow mascara.

This is the only product I will wear on the plane - I feel like my face disappears when I don't have it on. Even without mascara or concealer, it gives my face more structure and definition.

What is your must-have grooming session?

I have a 14-month-old baby girl, so I have no spare time. I haven't gone for a facial since she was born. My brows are really important to me, so I get a quick 20-minute brow wax at the Benefit boutique which is just next to my office.

I would rather not shave my legs and wear pants, but I will not have messy brows.

Which is your favourite perfume?

Gypsy Water by the Stockholm-based Byredo Parfums. I found it in Barneys New York.

I don't wear fragrances all the time, but when I do, I want to smell like a woman. This perfume is spicy and smells almost masculine. It makes me feel powerful when I wear it.

What, in your opinion, is the best beauty invention?

Dry shampoo - it is a life-saver. I have oily hair and wash my hair every day.

But when I travel, I don't want to wash it every day because I'd have to dry it. I put dry shampoo on my roots - it gives my hair volume and I don't have to wash it for three days.

I like the Klorane one; it is the only one that does not leave white residue in my dark hair.

What is the most ridiculous thing you have done in the name of beauty?

I haven't done anything really ridiculous, but I had a really ugly haircut when I was 19.

It was a short bob because the sleek Vidal Sassoon tapered bob was popular then.

I don't know why I thought I could pull it off when my hair was dyed a dark red, and I didn't even blow it dry in the morning then.

Choose one feature on your face and focus on that. You don't want to over do the make-up.

So if you have a strong lip, keep eye make-up simple with mascara. Or if you want a dramatic eye make-up, then keep the lips neutral with a gloss or balm.
