Bride holds wedding dinner alone after groom gets HFMD the day before

What would you do if your groom falls ill a day before your wedding dinner? This bride decided to go ahead with the celebrations without him and turn it into an "appreciation dinner" instead.

Stomp contributor Jiahui's wedding day was on Feb 20 and should have been a momentous occasion - but her husband came down with a serious bout of Hand Foot Mouth Disease (HFMD) just one day before.

Her husband was suffering from a high fever, ulcers and blisters and had to be quarantined due to the contagious nature of the disease.

Unfortunately, the couple had already paid 80 per cent of their bill at Halia at Raffles Hotel for their wedding dinner and the show had to go on, with or without the groom.

Jiahui said:

"Instead of letting close to $10,000 go to waste, we decided to just go ahead with the dinner and make it an appreciation dinner instead of a wedding one.

"I hosted the dinner alone as a pregnant bride-to-be.

"We were disappointed that the venue could not help us postpone our wedding dinner but they cited that they had already bought and prepared the ingredients.

"Jo, our wedding coordinator tried her best to help us but her hands were tied as she was not part of the management.

"My husband and I are so grateful for the support and blessings we got from our guests.

"All of my husband's invited guests turned up that night even though he couldn't be there himself and many guests tried to give ang bao but we declined as the dinner was an appreciation dinner for those who came to show their support and blessings and also, well wishes for my husband to get well soon.

"Right now we are sourcing for an alternative venue to host our wedding dinner proper. My husband is still very sick from HFMD."
