Singapore's oldest magazine, Her World, marked its 55th anniversary last Friday with a glitzy gala dinner, where this year's Her World Woman of the Year and Young Woman Achiever awards were also presented.
The event at the Shangri-La's Island Ballroom had a gathering of about 390 guests, including local celebrities, socialites and public figures.
The guest of honour was Speaker of Parliament Halimah Yacob.
Her World was Singapore's first English-language women's magazine to be published in Singapore and Malaysia. The monthly magazine features fashion, beauty and lifestyle trends as well as tips on topics such as careers, love, money and life.
As part of its aim to celebrate outstanding and inspiring women, the magazine launched its Woman of the Year award in 1991 and its Young Woman Achiever Award in 1999.
This year, Commander of the Airport Police Division, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Zuraidah Abdullah, received the Woman of the Year award. She is the first woman to hold the rank of Senior Assistant Commisioner, the third highest rank in the Singapore Police Force, and the first to be appointed to her current role.
The winner of the Young Woman Achiever award is local designer Priscilla Shunmugam. Her label Ong Shunmugam is known for its incorporation of traditional Asian fabrics in contemporary pieces.
Aside from celebrating these achievements, the gala dinner was also an occasion for guests to socialise and dress up. The crowd buzzed with chatter as guests mingled and sipped champagne, while jazzy tunes played in the background.
The magazine's deputy editor, Mr Justin Cheong, 39, says: "We are very happy to celebrate 55 years of being a leader in all aspects of women's lives, be it fashion, lifestyle or beauty.
"It's fitting to put on the glitz and glamour for this event to celebrate our 55th anniversary and the Woman of the Year award."
