Dick Lee back in fashion

SINGAPORE - Singer-songwriter Dick Lee, who started off his career in fashion, is making a comeback into the industry with his new menswear label and boutique, The Modern Outfitters.

Located at 61 Seng Poh Lane, The Modern Outfitters is a joint venture with entrepreneur Clinton Zheng. The 25-year-old Zheng runs a men's tailoring shop called Showroom at Midpoint Orchard.

The two met at an art event two years ago before deciding to start The Modern Outfitters. Styles range from printed floral shirts which Lee describes as "his style", to classic men's suits.

Prices range from $69.90 for a pair of bermudas to $2,079 for a suit made out of cloth from Ermenegildo Zegna, the Italian luxury menswear brand.

Says Lee, who is behind the label's designs: "In the last 20 years, I was focused on music. Now that things are settling down somewhat, I feel I have the time."

In the 1980s, he used to design clothes for his now-defunct boutiques Ping Pong and Hemispheres.

In the early to mid 2000s, Lee held the post of creative director for local labels Celia Loe and The Island Shop.

Lee and Zheng plan to launch a women's line soon.

The 58-year-old Lee is also selling some of his pre-loved designer clothes and accessories at the store, from labels such as Etro, Prada and Paul Smith.
