Donate your used running shoes for a good cause

SINGAPORE - Not sure what to do with that old pair of sneakers in your shoe cupboard that is still in good condition? Don't throw it away.

Sports store Running Lab is encouraging runners to donate their used running shoes for the less fortunate.

In return, donors will receive a $50 voucher which can be used to purchase a new pair of shoes from Running Lab.

According to Running Lab, regular runners replace their running shoes after clocking in a certain mileage, typically 600 to 800km.

Most of the time, these shoes are still in relatively good condition and can still be used.

The shoes collected from the donation drive, "Project Love Sneaker", will be donated to Sagip Kapamilya, the emergency humanitarian assistance programme of ABS-CBN Linkgkod Kapamlya Foundation Inc. (ALKFI) in the Philippines.

Sagip Kapamilya provides food and non-food relief to affected communities of disasters, and is involved in rehabilitation and disaster risk reduction projects.

This year, Running Lab's goal is to collect 2,000 pairs of shoes to help poverty and disaster-stricken people in the Philippines.

The shoe-donation drive, which started in 2010, is in its 5th year and will be held from April 1 to 30 at all Running Lab stores.
