Fann rejects jobs for baby

Television star Fann Wong's pregnancy did not come easy, and she has said no to four dramas to focus on motherhood, she reveals.

The 43-year-old, who is expecting her first child in August, still does not know the gender of her baby, she told Lianhe Zaobao in an interview published yesterday.

But she added: "I feel it's a girl. I don't know. It feels like it."

Her husband, actor Christopher Lee, 42, will not let her lift a finger to decorate the baby's room, as she is heavily pregnant, and plans to do it on his own when he wraps up his work in Taiwan and returns to Singapore, she said.

For now, the room is painted in gender-neutral white and green.

The couple have not chosen a name yet, said the report. She said they would consider the English names suggested by everybody, including the media, but the Chinese name would be vetted by a fortune teller.

The couple have been married for about five years, and she said she had been preparing for pregnancy all that time. To boost her health, she went on a traditional Chinese medicine regimen. And fruit, considered "cool" by Chinese physicians, and cold drinks were out.

Fann, who has left MediaCorp and is managed by Catwalk - the Taiwanese agency which is home to the likes of Chiling Lin - said she turned down four projects recently, including The Empress Of China, the mega-drama starring Fan Bingbing as female emperor Wu Zetian.

But she is focusing on her pregnancy and has no plans at all for her first post-maternity job, she said.

"The child is the most important," she added, and she is more concerned about things such as how long she should breastfeed her baby.
