A girl for Gigi Leung

HONG KONG - Singer Gigi Leung and her husband of three years, Spanish food engineer Sergio Crespo Gutes, shed tears of joy as they welcomed their firstborn, a girl, last Saturday, said Hong Kong newspapers.

Leung, 38, gave birth naturally to her daughter, weighing more than 2.7kg, in hospital at Victoria Peak last Saturday night, said Apple Daily.

Her husband had sent her to hospital when she felt a sudden discomfort on Friday night.

She announced the birth on social media on Sunday, saying: "Our little angel finally came to us last night."

She shared a photo of the newborn's tiny hand clasping her finger, and another of the baby sleeping.

According to Apple Daily, her husband had been most attentive during her pregnancy. When he was not working, he was at her side, making sure she was eating right.

She had to be careful about eating cold food, but when she had a craving for ice cream, he would make an exception and allow her a couple of mouthfuls.

The couple plan to bring up the girl in Hong Kong, said the report.

They do not want her to be spoon-fed lessons and are considering enrolling her in an international school.

Leung's sworn sisters, actress Charlie Young, actress Lee Sinje and singer Valen Hsu, all chimed in with congratulatory messages online on Sunday, said Ming Pao Daily News.

Young said she had known Leung for two decades and was "moved beyond description" to witness her becoming a mother.

Leung is the first of the four friends to have a baby.
