Lock N Hold Lipgloss, $13.50

On some days, pink or red just won't do. I want lips with attitude.

This lip gloss is so badass that I described it as punk even before I realised the colour was named Urban Punk.

The metallic sheen is great for a night on the town, although you will have to reapply it often.

Yes, even though it says "up to six-hour wear" on the bottle, you'll be lucky to get a full hour out of this. There was only a faint trace of its glorious sheen after a two-hour movie.

But the fact that it looks so great more than makes up for that. Looks do count, after all.

And while I found it a little difficult to apply the first time, touching up was a breeze.

It is also smooth on the lips, has a sweet smell and is not sticky or tacky - a big plus point.

Stila Colour Me Glossy Lip Glaze Set, $36

The set comprises three sticks of lip gloss.

I tried the passion fruit and was rewarded with a natural-looking sheen.

The formula, however, is a little too sticky and I often found my hair sticking to my lips.

It also felt overly thick, but that may have been because I applied too much.

Being clumsy, I find click-pens difficult to use. Too little? Too much? So confusing.

In this case, I twisted the top too many times and had a burst of colour on my fingers - a big waste considering it's very pretty and there isn't much in the tube.

The Body Shop Vanilla Lip Gloss, $16.90

If you like the smell of vanilla, this is the perfect lip gloss. The scent lingers in the air for a while after you apply it.

No special brush or applicator, it's just the old-fashioned hole-at-the-top kind of lip gloss, and that's actually my favourite kind - no mess, no fuss.

And the shimmer adds a nice sparkly glow to my lips. That said, there's nothing special about it and the price is a little steep.

It's fine for daily use or when you're on the go, but I wouldn't pick this for special occasions.
