From time to time, everyone faces the hassle of fixing a blocked toilet bowl, an air-conditioner blowing hot air or a leaky shower.
New Singapore start-up Fixit launched a portal (fixit.sg) on Thursday to help people easily find plumbers, carpenters, electricians or other tradesmen online.
Co-founder Ramkumar Govindarajan said: "We provide convenience. When homeowners have a choked toilet bowl, they can search online and get a long list of plumbers. Who to call?
"Our system already has a list of service providers. Users just have to describe what their problem is on our portal and our system will match the work needed with the service provider.
"They will get the four best quotes and they decide who to award the service to. We'll then give the contact details of the service provider to the user."
Users pay the service providers directly for their work. Fixit gets a 10 per cent commission from the service providers.
So far, the portal has 50 service providers who have been verified as genuine businesses with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority.
"We also surveyed the Internet to find reviews and ratings about a particular service provider. We handpicked those who have good reviews."
For urgent repairs in the early hours of the morning, fixit.sg automatically sends the user a list of selected service providers who could be of help.
In an emergency, users also have the option of calling Fixit, which in turn will get in touch with service providers who offer round-the-clock service.
