Man springs musical marriage proposal at Changi Airport

You know you're getting a musical marriage proposal when the man you're dating is a co-founder of two singing groups.

Mr John Khoo turned Changi Airport's departure hall into his own musical stage when he proposed to his fiancee, Ms Mellissa Chan, with a large singing flash mob in December.

Mr Khoo, 29, is the co-founder of two singing studios Glee Studios Singapore and the Singapore Show Choir Academy.

In a video posted on YouTube, the performance starts with the couple seated at a cafe at Changi Airport Terminal 1.

Then, Mr Khoo walks away and Ms Chan is seen sitting alone.

But not for long.

After being handed lyrics to a song played over speakers, the 26-year-old teacher was soon surrounded by several people dancing to Happy Together outside the cafe.

She was then led out to the departure hall, where about 100 people - including her fiance - sang and danced. Even the airport mascot, Max, joined in.

After another song, Mr Khoo went down on bended knee and popped the question. The crowd cheered when he announced "she said 'yes'".

The 10-minute video was uploaded onto YouTube on Wednesday and has garnered over 150,000 views.

Mr Khoo told The Straits Times that he chose to propose the airport as he thought it would be a good way to start their holiday. The couple - who have been together for 13 years - were going to Bangkok and Taipei.

He also wanted to invite his friends and students, whom he said are part of his life.

"She wanted something personal and quiet, but I hoped to make it more memorable for her," told Mr Khoo to The Straits Times.
