People Magazine Awards: Sorry bro, I'm the sexiest

She says she is sexy because she is happy.

Model-actress Kate Upton, 22, who was named the Sexiest Woman at the annual People Magazine Awards, told Access Hollywood afterwards that having a positive outlook is the key to attractiveness.

"I'm so excited, I mean it's amazing," the stunning blonde was quoted as saying.

"I always try to be sexy because to me that's confidence and being happy and it's amazing to be awarded for that."

As she accepted her prize at the star-studded ceremony on Thursday night, she apologised to her teenage brother, David, for any embarrassment caused on her part.

She said: "You have to imagine being an 18-year-old boy and your sister being called Sexiest Woman, it must kind of suck, although he never complains."

Upton was the first model to appear solo on two different covers of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.

Her career went from strength to strength after that.

She has since covered publications including Vanity Fair and Vogue, and starred in movies such as The Three Stooges and The Other Woman.

The winners at the People Magazine Awards are not chosen by fans, but are selected by editors at People and sister publication Entertainment Weekly.

Other big winners included Karlie Kloss for Model of the Year, Kate Hudson for Celebrity Role Model of the Year, Jimmy Fallon for Talk Show Host of the Year and Gwen Stefani for Style Icon of the Year, among others.

Jennifer Aniston won Movie Performance of the Year for her turn in independent film Cake.

There were many A-listers in attendance including Jennifer Lopez, who sported a sparkly cream-coloured jumpsuit.

But, despite a glittery array of celebrities and superstars, the inaugural awards could not garner top ratings on TV.
