She 'shops' in her own closet

How would you describe your sense of style?

I like variety and different styles because I dress to look good for myself.

Sometimes, I dress according to the weather, especially if it's too hot. As the dress code at my work place is relaxed, I get to try out different styles every day, from a classic little black dress or a sporty outfit to a feminine floral dress or maybe even a little rocker chic with a tee, jeggings and low boots.

I even dress up for yoga. I've had several compliments from fellow practitioners.

I have too many clothes, so that helps with the variety.

I reckon I have enough clothes to last me at least one year without wearing the same item twice.

Who are your favourite designers and go-to brands?

I shop online a lot, so Asos (www.asos.com) and Revolve Clothing (www.revolveclothing. com) are high on my list for high-street fashion that is affordable yet trendy.

I like Australian labels such as Cameo because the fit of its clothes is true to size, such as this dress.

For yoga wear, I love items from www.fitflywear.com because they are colourful, such as this top and bottom and I can look good even while I'm perspiring.

My favourite brands for shoes are Valentino and Gucci.

Do you have any style icons?

Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw. Who didn't love her wardrobe during her Sex And The City days? It's the mix and match that I love most.

Style is an art. You have to know what works for you and what doesn't.

Which are your three favourite pieces?

A blue and orange leopard print maxi dress from River Island because it's not only easy to wear but also looks unique. In addition, it combines colour and leopard prints.

I like this black sheer lace maxi dress from Asos. It is sexy because the inner skirt is a mini but the lace is floor length.

I also love this red dress from Tobi. I love the colour red.

It's on the top of my list when dresses and lipstick are concerned. It makes a person look fresher.

What is your weakness when it comes to shopping?

I like maxi dresses because I'm tall and can get away with them.

They also remind me of breezy summer holidays. Hot pink bags - I gravitate towards bags that are pink.

I have a feeling that it's something from my childhood, as pink was my favourite colour then.

Which is your favourite splurge piece?

It would have to be my evening gowns. The simpler the gown, the harder it is to make it look beautiful. I recently bought one from Aida at Bloomingdales when I was in New York. It looks simple - a navy blue evening gown with nude mesh at the side.

It's figure hugging, so I expected it to be extremely unforgiving.

However, it was made with thicker material, so everything flows nicely.

Is there a purchase you've regretted?

Too many. I've looked at many things in hindsight and asked myself what I was thinking. Now, I make sure I really like the item before buying it.

If I like something only a little bit, I do not buy it.

What was your most recent fashion purchase?

Last week, I bought four pieces of jewellery from Poh Heng's Peranakan Ensemble.

This just launched in stores and I couldn't resist it. I had to get it for myself.

It's a collection designed and crafted for the SG50 celebrations, but it means a lot to me because I'm part Peranakan.

I love gold, so I try to buy a piece of gold jewellery every month.

What is the best shopping or style advice you live by?

I have three tips. First, shop in your closet.

I'm always finding stuff I forgot or things that had gone out of style, but are on trend again.

Second, keep pieces that may be slightly small or large for when you lose or put on a little weight.

Lastly, have a good seamstress who knows how to alter your clothes well and give you good advice.

I go to Ms Melia Wong of Alterpro at Hong Leong Building because she always tells me what looks good and what does not.
